KOUVOLA, Finland, August 18, 2023. - A prototype of a 5G Mokki Tech Space cottage optimised for indoor environments was unveiled at the Kouvola campus of the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) on Thursday.
In a style that agrees with functional, modern, Nordic interior design, the ecologically sourced birch plywood structure, finished with cotton-linen textiles, bursts with fifth-generation mobile information and communication technology.
The module and its accessories were created by three students and an alumnus of Xamk. Design and manufacturing: Antti Hevosmaa and Antti-Oskari Sinkkonen (alumnus). Electricity and wiring: Joni Fagerlund. Curtains: Ellanoora Valve.
In a streak of user-centric design, the surrounding curtains gently guide people immersed in a virtual reality experience to stay within the physical parameters of their metaverse.
The 5G Mokki is a modular high-tech unit for developing software applications that require ultra-fast internet connections, to render immersive, three-dimensional (3D), virtual-reality (VR) and augmented-reality (AR) learning environments, as well as to deliver innovation services and remote work from and to any location in the world.
The 5G Mokki Tech Spaces feature 5G/6G technology courses. Content developers include Aalto University, University of Helsinki, University of Oulu, University of Tampere, Nokia, Ericsson, Ernst & Young, and Accenture.
As one of eight international development pilot projects sponsored by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, EDUCase brings together 26 Finnish higher-education institutions with academic and societal partners in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia to promote collaboration for sustainability in higher education and innovation.
Through partnerships on the EDUCase Platform and other international university networks, the educational and research content will expand to a wide variety of themes.
One area of focus is the stimulation of entrepreneurship through business courses and mentoring, while the interconnected cottages can serve as a development platform for next-generation software-intensive startups.
At the same time, the tech spaces can provide the technical infrastructure to stimulate remote work. For example, through virtual and augmented reality applications, African knowledge workers could work remotely for European companies with overlapping time zones.
In the spring of 2023, EDUCase’s 5G Seasonal School involved the African School of Economics in Nigeria, Benin and Ivory Coast; Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia; and Lusaka University in Zambia.
Following a visit by a delegation of the EDUCase Platform to Nigeria in April 2023, the Nigerian agency responsible for the country’s university infrastructure, TETFund, expressed interest in creating a network of connected 5G Mokki Tech Spaces to enable new types of trans-continental studies combining technology and business.
Starting with a core of six university campuses, each representing one of Nigeria’s six geopolitical regions, the intention is to subsequently expand the network to cover 49 university campuses. As a result, the 5G Mokki Tech Spaces will be able to provide access to the latest mobile ITC technologies to up to five million students and recent graduates.
The project will be planned and implemented in collaboration with Cognity Advisory, a well-known African consultancy network, and the Start North Mokki Tech Space network administered by Start North association and its Mökki Solutions Oy Ab impact company.
Start North is an association that serves as an accelerator network, consisting of world-leading universities, companies, and not-for-profit organisations, including Ambitious Africa, an initiative bringing African and Nordic youth together to take Africa to the next level.
The true potential of 5G/6G-enabled modular infrastructure lies in enabling entirely new categories of applications. Think remote control of drones, self-driving cars and complex industrial processes. Think remote surgery. Think remote work and meetings in virtual or augmented reality. Think remote learning. The operative word is "remote".

The second largest industrial subcontracting trade fair in Europe, and the largest industrial trade fair in Finland, Alihankinta and AlihankintaHEAT will be organized at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre on 27–29th September 2022. The theme of the event will be Industry Appeal, Needs and Experts. The exhibition stands for this autumn's Alihankinta Subcontracting Trade Fair have been sold out, which means that approximately 1,000 exhibitors will attend this international event covering all exhibition halls of the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre. The Subcontracting Trade Fair 2022 partner for Alihankinta is Wärtsilä Finland Oy.
After two years of exceptional circumstances, everyone is looking forward to Alihankinta and AlihankintaHEAT 2022 with special enthusiasm. The event will be tightly structured around current themes, meaningful encounters and latest solutions.
– This autumn looks bright, and we are looking forward to having the fair. Pandemic times may have changed many practices, but people's need for face-to-face encounters has not stopped. This is why so many still attend trade fairs and other events; just look at Alihankinta that has been sold out. In addition to pre-booked appointments, live events enable random encounters and unexpected collaboration opportunities. This is not possible via Teams, for example. Of course, being together is an important value in and of itself. Our goal is to make this autumn's Alihankinta and AlihankintaHEAT event a place for meaningful encounters and a three-day industrial festival, where the famous positive subcontracting spirit of Tampere is ever-present, says Tanja Järvensivu, PR and Partnership Director of Tampere Trade Fairs Group and Project Manager for Alihankinta.
Industry Appeal, Needs and Experts as event theme – Wärtsilä Finland Oy as the Subcontracting Trade Fair partner
The theme of Alihankinta and AlihankintaHEAT 2022 will be Industry Appeal, Needs and Experts. The theme will showcase the current and future needs and prospects of industry on a broad scale. Debate-arousing perspectives include the appeal of industry and how to attract skilled workers, the importance of a new kind of cooperation, and challenges and changes arising from the volatile global situation.
On Tuesday 27th Sept, the programme will focus on the theme "Industry Appeal, Needs and Experts". The first day's programme includes the awarding of Subcontractor of the Year and Main Supplier of the Year by Finnish Association of Purchasing and Logistics LOGY. On Wednesday 28th Sept, the programme is titled "Industry Future and Current Challenges", discussing e.g., the effects of the Ukraine crisis, industrial supply shortages, cybersecurity and preparedness, and future changes in industry. Thursday 29th Sept will be "Shapers of the Future Thursday", with a content that highlights the appeal of industry, relevant topics for youth and students, and the importance of collaboration between schools, universities and companies.
The Subcontracting Trade Fair 2022 partner for Alihankinta 2022 will be Wärtsilä Finland Oy. Wärtsilä is a leading international supplier of innovative technologies and life cycle solutions in the marine and energy markets. In 2021, Wärtsilä's turnover was over EUR 4.8 billion.
Wärtsilä's Vesa Riihimäki, Ensto's Marjo Miettinen and Engineering Academy's Peer Haataja as theme partners
As in previous years, Alihankinta has assigned three esteemed industry experts as theme partners. The theme partner from Wärtsilä, the main partner of the fair, is Vesa Riihimäki, President in charge of production, power plants and procurement, who also leads the Sustainable Technology Hub project. The second theme partner is Chairman of the Board at Ensto, Marjo Miettinen. The third theme partner is Peer Haataja, CEO of Tampereen Teollisuusoppilaitos Oy and head of the new Engineering Academy.
Subcontracting Trade Fair Alihankinta presents the metal, electronics, plastics and rubber industries, industrial ICT solutions, as well as design and consulting within these fields. During normal years, the event has attracted over a thousand exhibitors from twenty countries and about 18,000 trade fair visitors. The fair is organized by Tampere Trade Fairs Group in collaboration with Technology Industries of Finland, Rubber Manufacturers' Association of Finland RMAF, Finnish Association of Purchasing and Logistics LOGY, and Finnish Plastics Industries Federation FIPIF. The fair has taken place in Tampere since 1988.

"Behind sustainable choices is not the actual sustainability of the company, organization, or brand, but the sustainability experience," writes Timo Järvinen, CEO of the Finnish empathy analytics company NayaDaya Inc.
If we split the core of sustainability, in addition to the ecological, social, and economical consequences of our actions, we will find something that has a decisive impact on people's behavior, business success, and sustainable development.
This other aspect of sustainability is experience. Sustainability is an increasingly important part of the customer and employee experience. Customers and employees appraise the sustainability of companies, organizations, and brands in relation to their own values. Appraisals lead to subjective meanings and emotions – thus creating an emotional experience of sustainability.
Emotional experiences have a decisive impact on behavior – as do sustainability experiences. We have seen this especially recently. Emotions make us ignite, participate, and commit to things that represent the world we believe in. The emotions within the experiences of sustainability can also cause the opposite: avoidance, resistance, and even aggressive behavior.
From the point of view of companies and organizations, the effects of sustainability experiences are at best seen as traction and retention, or even as a competitive edge. At worst, they can cause loss of customers and employees.
If a company, organization, or brand wants to succeed and be a part of change toward a better world, sustainability experiences are critical to the success of its mission. We must accept that, for example, behind sustainable consumer choices is not product sustainability but rather consumer sustainability experience.
People are not able to react to anything other than the experiences produced by their own judgment.
A company or an organization needs to identify the essential parts of its sustainability to its customers and employees. It is beneficial to find out how elements of the sustainability experience affect behavior. By strengthening engaging elements and fixing or transforming the causes of stagnation, avoidance, and resistance, people are involved – this way it’s possible to create value for customers and employees, strengthen loyalty, and promote a sustainable, profitable growth.
Sustainability must be built, and the sustainability experience managed responsibly. However, this self-evident idea is not so self-evident after all. As people do not react to sustainable actions but rather to their sustainability experiences, it is possible to influence their experiences and emotions in ways that are not responsible but aim only to create images.
Recognition of authenticity contributes to healthy development. Companies, organizations, and brands that embrace sustainability as a key guideline and a part of their DNA implement these principles in all their operations and communications. When deeds and words meet each other and people’s values, the result is hope for the better, trust, change, and ultimately, success.
Sustainability is the way to a better future and competitive edge, but it is often full of curves and pitfalls. We must accept that sustainable actions do not always evoke positive, engaging emotions. It is not sustainable to always do and say what people wish and want to hear.
The consequences of acts of sustainability can be contradictory. Sometimes they mean cutting personal interests, which causes negative reactions. Sometimes the public and social media deal with events in ways that don’t do justice to real efforts.
In all circumstances, it is helpful to identify the customer and employee experiences and reactions. Collective empathy and data are needed to identify emotions as well as their root causes and consequences. The answers are not found on social media, where the loudest voice is often held by a relatively small number of people.
Communication is needed to manage sustainability experiences – not just to evoke images but to portray boldly and uncompromisingly the reality. From time to time, we all need to be steered into the right direction. Sometimes we must give up our own interests here and now so that all people, including future generations, will have hope.
The power of compassion should be better harnessed to engage and involve customers and employees.

Nukute’s service solution, powered by Nukute’s own CE-marked medical device innovation, facilitates a healthcare process that leads to a reduced need for specialised health care. The cost effectiveness the device and solution provides unequivocally helped seal the deal with the City of Oulu.
The decision was made in collaboration with the previous service provider, the University Hospital of Oulu (OYS). The agreement highlights the importance of shifting the screening diagnostics of sleep apnea to a primary healthcare provider, away from specialised clinic duty. In Oulu, there are already over 500 people within the public healthcare system referred to home sleep apnea testing (HSAT) by the City’s general practitioners. OYS will now transfer the whole of this patient queue to Nukute. Nukute's healthcare unit is located in Rehapolis 1, right beside the Oulu University Hospital and at the heart of Oulu's healthcare district.
”First and foremost we need to speed up the screening and diagnostic processes of sleep apnea. The City of Oulu has a strong track-record of participating in the development and deployment of new technology. We hope our cooperation with Nukute will be a stepping stone for the Nukute technology becoming widespread throughout the world” -states City of Oulu’s Deputy Chief Physician Artturi Vuotila.
“For us at Nukute, for our technology and medical approach to sleep apnea screening, this is nothing less than a pivotal project to be handled with the utmost sense of priority. To follow in the Oulu University Hospital’s footsteps is not a minor task for a healthtech start-up. That being said, we sincerely thank the City of Oulu for the trust they have placed in us. Our goal is to have this become an industry benchmark from which we’ll drive a success story in the global medical technology business.” -comments Pekka T. Saavalainen, the CEO (interim) of Nukute.
Sleep apnea can be described as a new first-world endemic that is suffered by 936 million people around the world. (Estimation of the global prevalence and burden of obstructive sleep apnoea: a literature-based analysis; The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, Volume 7 Issue 8, August 2019)

1 271 BIDRAG DELTOG

After a long wait, Finland’s leading industrial fair will be held on 21.-23. September 2021 at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre. In three days, the Subcontracting Trade Fair and AlihankintaHEAT will offer visitors a unique overview of the industry’s prospects and the future of the industry, with more than 900 exhibitors. The theme of the trade fair to be held safety first is Business from Data.
The Asta fair for construction and housing held at the beginning of September successfully opened the Tampere Trade Fairs group after a long pandemic break. The group’s largest trade fair event is currently being built at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre health safety first.
- Subcontracting Trade Fair has brought together industry companies and experts in good and more challenging times for 33 years. Hopefully, the pioneer role as a courageous leader will also work now that society needs to be opened up safely to events as well. There are more than 900 exhibitors involved, so the industrial crowd is really seen under the same roof at the end of a long wait. After the past virtual year, it is clear that there is a strong need for industry players to meet their customers and partners face to face. Hopefully, event visitors will also be allowed to go to the fair to do business, and companies’ teleworking and travel instructions would not become an obstacle. Fortunately, restrictions are finally being eased, so there is still hope to get the professionals on the go. We definitely emphasize health safety and the most important guideline is to come to the fair in good health, says the event’s Project Manager, Marketing and Communications Director Tanja Järvensivu of Tampere Trade Fairs.
