The Baltic Sea Oxygenation and the Super-Green Hydrogen Economy project, also known as “BOxHy”, is a collaborative effort between Flexens, a strong regional developer of hydrogen projects, Lhyfe, one of the world’s pioneers in green and renewable hydrogen production for mobility and industry, and Stockholm University's Department of Ecology, Environment, and Plant Sciences (DEEP).
The main objective of the project is to tackle the problem of “anoxia” (the complete lack of oxygen in the marine environment) in the Baltic Sea by injecting oxygen into the sea via adapted, existing technology. The project will evaluate suitable coastal locations for conducting a pilot study and investigate sector coupling opportunities with green hydrogen production. The project, led by Flexens, commenced in October 2023 and is expected to conclude in October 2024. The Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) Fund is funding the project.
Injecting pure oxygen below the pycnocline could, in conjunction with external nutrient input limitation, eliminate anoxia in the Baltic Sea. In the BSAP-funded study published in Oct 2022, Vahanen and Jacobs investigated the concept. To continue the work, the BOxHy project will initiate the pilot site preparation for testing oxygen injection in the Baltic Sea.
Deep oxygen injection, also known as DOI, is a method where pure oxygen gas is released deep under the water's surface, below a region where strong changes in water density occur, using a system that spreads out the oxygen evenly with micro-bubbles. This type of system is already used in several freshwater lakes in the United States. The project will identify a suitable fjord-scale pilot site for DOI and begin its preparations, including stakeholder engagement and identifying potential funding sources.
“Restoring the oxygen conditions of the Baltic Sea deep water by long-term oxygen additions would have many positive effects on the Baltic Sea ecosystem”, says Jakob Walve, marine ecologist at DEEP, Stockholm University, and adds “The habitat for cod reproduction and feeding would greatly expand. We can also expect lowered phosphorus concentrations as more will be bound in sediments, and thus less intense bloom of nitrogen-fixing, toxic cyanobacteria”.
The estimated oxygen demand below the pycnocline in the Baltic Sea Proper and Gulf of Finland is 10,000 to ~15,000 tons per day. BOxHy proposes a symbiotic approach to Baltic Sea restoration by integrating it with the growing sector of green hydrogen production. The strategy involves utilising the oxygen co-produced during water electrolysis — a process of producing hydrogen — to rejuvenate marine ecosystems. This “super-green” hydrogen production can be vital for financing Baltic Sea Oxygenation.
“Given Flexens’ island roots and passion for the Baltic Sea, we are particularly thrilled to be managing and coordinating this project. Our role includes mapping existing and potential Power-to-X projects to find connections with anoxic regions and determining the electrolyser capacity required to meet the oxygen demand in these regions. We are also responsible for investigating the energy supply availability for potential large-scale electrolysers from planned offshore wind farms (e.g., in the Åland Islands)”, says project manager Szilvia Haide from Flexens.
"The project aims to not only explore the expansion of the 'super-green' hydrogen economy but also to ignite vital discussions on this topic. We're actively engaging with key stakeholders to navigate the technical, financial, political, regulatory, and social landscapes essential for the success of this innovative initiative. We will also organise informational events and oversee the creation and publication of a project report”, continues Haide.
The project is executed by a team of experts that bring their diverse range of knowledge to the table. French energy company, Lhyfe, has already piloted the world’s first offshore green hydrogen production facility via the Sealhyfe project of Le Croisic, France. As part of the BOxHy project, Lhyfe will investigate the integration of DOI technology with the offshore hydrogen production platform, and the replicability of the platform in the Baltic Sea environment.
In 2017, when Lhyfe was founded, the idea of Matthieu Guesné was to combine decarbonising transport and industry by producing green hydrogen, while at the same time using the co-produced oxygen to reoxygenate prone ocean regions. While the success of Sealhyfe is already proof of the possibility to produce green and renewable hydrogen offshore, the installation of a pilot reoxygenation unit is still a matter of research and development.
Matthieu Guesné, founder and CEO of Lhyfe: "Reoxygenation is at the heart of the Lhyfe project. Back in 2017, we imagined a way of massively decarbonising transport and industry by producing and supplying renewable hydrogen and, at the same time, contributing to the reoxygenation of the oceans as part of our offshore projects. We are very proud to be taking this next step with Flexens and DEEP, Stockholm University. Through this type of initiative, as well as reducing our carbon footprint, we can imagine providing a service to the environment and having a positive impact on the natural ecosystem."
“My role as physical oceanographer working as oxygen advisor at Lhyfe is to secure the interest, sustainability and feasibility of reoxygenation as an artificial environmental mitigation measure. The aim is to help the marine environment in the vicinity of our upcoming coastal and offshore hydrogen production locations to withstand and/or abate low oxic conditions, implied by climate change and/or nutrient pollution. Lhyfe brings the needed experience in designing offshore hydrogen production platforms by water electrolysis, as well as expertise in physical oceanography to the BOxHy project. The project is a great opportunity to push the topic of reoxygenation in a responsible and strategic manner, and to start raising awareness of it among the science, engineering and political communities as well as society. Collecting and answering pressing questions concerning this topic towards an actual first pilot project is the main goal of the BOxHy project, and we are delighted to work with great project partners and external advisors from various disciplines on the subject”, says Dr. Patricia Handmann, Oxygen advisor at Lhyfe.
With extensive marine monitoring and research, DEEP at Stockholm University has followed the development of the Baltic Sea since the 1970s. “Over the years we have accumulated substantial expertise on the Baltic Sea ecosystem and its response to excessive nutrient loading and other impacts, from small, enclosed bays to the open Baltic Sea”, says Jakob Walve, marine ecologist at DEEP. “In the BOxHy project we will primarily evaluate the suitability of different coastal bays for testing oxygenation on a pilot scale. We need to assess anoxic areas and volumes and the oxygen additions needed to improve conditions in the bay. There are also a number of practical issues, such as access to the areas. On a larger, Baltic Sea scale, we will look more into detail at the distribution of anoxia and estimate the impact of potential oxygen inputs. We also need to formulate research questions for the pilot study, where the aim is to gain knowledge relevant also to the impact of larger-scale oxygen release.”
The project is also supported by the Science and Technology Advisory Committee (STACO), a panel of 9 experts in oxygenation from around the world. By forming this panel, we aim to bridge the knowledge gap between the scientific and engineering world concerning oxygenation, and to widen the horizon of possibilities for both. The STACO is chaired by Jakob Walve as scientific Co-chair and Patricia Handmann as industry Co-chair.

The CDP Supplier Engagement assessment complements the CDP results published in December 2022, in which Atos secured a place on CDP’s A List for tackling climate change. CDP’s annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognized as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency.
Atos Procurement’s objective is to have as much of its spend as possible with sustainable and green suppliers, and therefore aims to work with suppliers that are assessed by EcoVadis. In 2022, 70% of total Atos Group spend was covered by such suppliers. Atos is also using an internal maturity assessment to understand suppliers’ maturity from a decarbonization perspective. For those suppliers that have no sufficient carbon reduction program in place, Atos works to support them on their decarbonization journey. Atos suppliers can demonstrate their commitment to fight climate change by signing a dedicated contract clause with Atos, from which they commit to start measuring and reporting their emissions and commit to a globally recognized climate change related target. Atos also collects actual emissions data from its suppliers to calculate its own scope 3 emissions.
Additionally, Atos itself, has received an EcoVadis Platinum Award for its performance in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), thereby confirming its position in the top 1% of companies assessed by EcoVadis in its Industry (Computer programming, consultancy and related activities). EcoVadis evaluates across four categories: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. Atos has achieved excellent results in all four categories, particularly in Environment.
Atos’ commitment is also reinforced by its client DLAs (Decarbonization Level Agreements). For those clients for which it provides digital infrastructure services (such as cloud or digital workplace), Atos commits to carbon reductions that are measurable and auditable by third parties. If Atos does not deliver the agreed emissions reductions, it offsets the remaining emissions with verified carbon credits.

Just hours away from the final drop of the SpiroVerse NFT. The web3 platform for Wellness, Health, Nutrition, EnergyCare, Sustainability and the Elevation of Consciousness continues its impact through the 12 + 1 Sacred Artifact NFTs.
The Sacred Geometry Collection is designed to entice and inspire. The mathematically perfect shapes hold meaning through the centuries, cultures, religions and artistic expressions. Found in Greek art, in Aztec and Inca engravings, in Buddhist Temples or in Hindu myths, these shapes have been used to signify virtue, counterpoise the duality of the material and immaterial, male and female, good and evil.
SpiroVerse’s NFTs also carry a utility and a value, both in terms of the SpiroTron token, as well as in the different levels of access they grant to the platform, community, marketplace, retreats and subsequent yields and rewards.
Distributed in 4 levels, the price of these NFTs, which are among the first minted in the TON network, range from 36.90TON for Level 1, to 369TON for Level 4, and with rewards in SpiroTron tokens ($SPIRO). At the time of the public token generation event, $SPIRO is valued at USD 1.
The scheduled drop of this limited edition of Sacred Artifact NFTs is December 13th. To purchase Sacred Artifact NFTs visit https://nft.spiroverse.io/ . For more information about SpiroVerse, please visit https://www.spiroverse.io/

Sacred Artifacts for Sacred Humanity
On a mission. SpiroVerse continues to work towards the enlightenment and elevation of consciousness of humanity through creating a soulful infrastructure built on blockchain and includes everything needed to develop personal energy (health, longevity) and to reach the highest potential (wellbeing, talents, abilities) on one platform.
At this time, and merging Art, Utility and Sacred meaning, SpiroVerse is about to launch a collection of NFT Artifacts. Delving into the effects of Sacred Geometry in our minds and souls, the NFT collection is designed to empower their holders with access to the entirety of the SpiroVerse platform, as well as the SpiroHuman Community, MarketSpace and Vested Rewards.
Art penetrates humanity. From poetry to music, from landscapes to paintings, from architecture to sculptures, the human brain responds to colors, textures and shapes with different emotions. Art touches our soul. It has done so since ancestral times, and, if youtube is any indication, in its musical form, art also attracts other species. From cows to elephants, from dogs to apes, our brainwaves seem attuned to react to artistic inputs.
This is the case with geometry as well. Human development of perspective can turn a 2D representation into the Last Supper, with depth, light rays, fugue points and human shapes. Sacred Geometry is one of these manifestations of art. A special one, as it merges our senses with the language of nature: Mathematics.
With a strong and knowledgeable community, SpiroVerse’s SpiroHumans will have access to a host of like-minded individuals with whom they will be able to participate in community enhancement activities, retreats, classes and skill building courses. All the while having the challenge and reward of earning $SPIRO tokens while they go through their personalized evolution paths.
The scheduled drop of this limited edition of Sacred Artifact NFTs is December 13th. To purchase Sacred Artifact NFTs visit https://nft.spiroverse.io/ . For more information about SpiroVerse, please visit https://www.spiroverse.io/

With no credible pathway to 1.5°C according to UNEP’s latest Emissions Gap Report, the need for businesses to identify, mitigate and adapt to vulnerabilities as a result of climate change is becoming increasingly important.
The EcoAct Climate Risk Platform provides oversight of the exposure of an organisation's portfolio of physical sites to all 28 of the climate risks included in the EU taxonomy[1], allowing users to explore different criticalities, climate scenarios and time horizons. The platform models both classical climate risks such as floods and heat waves, as well as less common risks, such as glacial lake outburst floods, salinisation of coastal water tables and the impact of ocean acidification.
State-of-the-art climate information aligned with reference frameworks
Aligned with leading climate reporting frameworks including the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the CDP’s global disclosure system, the platform will support organisations to adopt a proactive strategy to mitigating and adapting to climate change including if a business should consider transforming their business model entirely.
"Our latest Climate Reporting Performance research revealed that although most businesses consider climate change a principal risk, many still do not have sufficiently robust long term plans to mitigate or adapt their business to climate change. This new platform, developed by our climate experts, and based on data from more than sixty climate risk analysis projects, can be adapted to any sector to support transformative change. It provides all organisations with the means to analyse climate scenarios, to access precise quantifications based on the latest scientific data and, ultimately, to facilitate informed decision-making with complete autonomy", says Véronique Mariotti, Head of Climate Risk at EcoAct, an Atos company.
Accurate, versatile and customised visualisation of climate indicators
Based on the latest scientific data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and, in particular, its 6th Climate Change Assessment Report published in 2021 and 2022, the EcoAct Climate Risk Platform offers an accurate and scientifically based quantification of physical climate change risk. To obtain maximum accuracy, the platform integrates the CORDEX[2] regional climate models with a resolution of up to 12 kilometre, based on the IPCC scenarios, as well as complementary datasets up to 30-metre resolution and from globally recognised organisations such as WRI[3] or NOAA[4]. The use of downscaled regional climate data makes the platform one of the most comprehensive and accurate commercially available to date.
The EcoAct Climate Risk Platform is part of Atos' unique net-zero portfolio of business advisory services, digital services and tools, and nature-based solutions - giving organisations the means and visibility they need to take action on climate change today.
ENDS
Notes to editors
Designed to combine scientific rigour with simplicity and flexibility of use, the EcoAct Climate Risk Platform allows the visualisation of climate indicators to be adapted to the needs, maturity and level of expertise of the organisation.

[1] The EU taxonomy is a classification system, establishing a list of environmentally sustainable economic activities. It could play an important role helping the EU scale up sustainable investment and implement the European green deal. The EU taxonomy would provide companies, investors and policymakers with appropriate definitions for which economic activities can be considered environmentally sustainable. In this way, it should create security for investors, protect private investors from greenwashing, help companies to become more climate-friendly, mitigate market fragmentation and help shift investments where they are most needed.

The empathy study examined Helsinki Region Transport's customer experiences, especially in the context of HSL's brand and sustainability. Sustainability experiences were analyzed from the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) viewpoints.
Experience on sustainability was shown to have a strengthening impact on HSL’s brand. The most often chosen emotions in connection with sustainability are contentment and interest. Positive emotions were experienced almost three times more often than negative. Empathy Analytics™, based on emotions, science, and data, reveals which components of sustainability are the most significant to HSL’s customers – and how they impact behavior and engagement.
"The results show that taking care of HSL’s social mission is the core of our sustainability – and we have clearly been successful in that area. Environmental sustainability attracts people the most. The impacts of public transportation system are experienced as ecologically beneficial and engaging," says director Mari Flink from Helsinki Regional Transport Authority.
Some polarized responses were linked to staff, customer-orientation, and the Covid-19 pandemic. Respondents who regard the ticket prices as significant, experience more often negative than positive feelings.
Many respondents indicate interest toward, and desire for more information on sustainability.
"Those interested in sustainability have often a real thirst for knowledge. Empathy and analytics guide us to prioritize actions and communications. By increasing understanding, we engage citizens, promote public transport as well as strengthen both the sustainable development and our own brand," underlines Flink.
The empathy study, conducted as online-survey in February 2022, attracted 2,674 respondents in total.
