The Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS) has signed the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). SLS is the first nonprofit foundation in Finland to commit to the initiative.
PRI consists of a global network of investors established in 2005 at the behest of the then UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan. The network has developed investment principles that support investors in their work on responsible investments. By becoming a signatory of the Principles of Responsible Investment, SLS undertakes to emphasise issues related to the environment, social responsibility and corporate governance (ESG) in its investment practices and ownership policies, and to report annually to PRI on how responsible investment is put into practice.
“Joining the PRI is a milestone in our sustainability work. Reporting to PRI will help us develop the sustainability of our investment activities and spur us on in the work we have done in recent years. We are proud to show our commitment to sustainable investments by being part of PRI,” said Ninny Olin, CFO at SLS.
At the moment, PRI comprises over 4,200 investors globally, of which 50 are Finnish operators. SLS, which has assets under management of just over EUR 2 billion, is the first among the nonprofit foundations in Finland to sign the initiative and thus commit to the investment principles.
“Responsibility is an important element of our investment policy, which supports our goal to achieve excellent long-term returns. By joining the network, we will receive help in further improving the quality of our investment activities. We hope that more foundations and funds in Finland will follow our example and join PRI," said CEO Dag Wallgren.
“We are delighted to welcome the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland as a PRI signatory,” commented PRI’s CEO Fiona Reynolds. “As the first nonprofit foundation and society in Finland to sign up to the PRI, it is great to see their commitment to incorporating ESG and responsible investment practices. We look forward to working together in future.”

The Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS) preserves, develops and disseminates information about the Swedish cultural heritage in Finland. SLS is one of the largest investment managers of donations for public benefit purposes in Finland and the largest private financial backer of research into the Swedish language and Swedish cultural heritage in Finland. SLS owns and manages the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland.
The Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) is the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment. Supported by the United Nations, it works to understand the investment implications of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors and to support its international network of investor signatories in incorporating these factors into their investment and ownership decisions. The PRI acts in the long-term interests of its signatories, of the financial markets and economies in which they operate and ultimately of the environment and society as a whole. Launched in New York in 2006, the PRI has grown to more than 4,000 signatories, managing over $121 trillion AUM.
